Mantain the correct weight. Anorexia and bulimia

Anorexia nervosa and bulimia are eating disorders associated with an alteration in body image.

Anorexia nervosa consists of self-imposed extreme food limitation. It causes dangerously fast weight loss which can reach the point of starvation. This disorder is most common in adolescent girls, although it can also be present in men, children and adults.

Bulimia consists of eating to excess followed by self-induced vomiting. It frequently does not give rise to significant weight loss and the situation can go unnoticed until the individual asks for help.

These are illnesses which require personalised attention by an interdisciplinary team of specialised health professionals.
