Substitutes: YES. What does the law say?

There is specific technical-healthcare regulation for these products (Royal Decree 1430/1997, of 15th September), in order to guarantee that they contain a supply of balanced nutrients. The following are some of the nutrients on which the law provides detail:

Energy: the energy provided by substitute products of one or several meals must not be less than 200 kcal. or greater than 400 kcal per meal.

Protein: must be between 25% and 50% of the total energy value of a product.

Fat: must be less than 30% of the total energy of the product. It should contain minimum quantities of some essential fatty acids.

Fibre: should not be less than 10 grams.

Vitamins and minerals: must contain specific figures for these substances, which ensure the user receives the proper supply of them if one or all meals are substituted.
