Essential nutrients. Proteins

Our body manufactures new proteins from the proteins that we take in food, so that they perform multiple functions. These can be summarised as the following three:

  1. Growth. They cannot be substituted for either carbohydrates or for fats.
  2. They manufacture the tissues of the body, repairing the wear and tear that the human body suffers..
  3. They supply raw materials for the formation of digestive juices, hormones, blood proteins and some vitamins and enzymes.

Protein is necessary to create and maintain living beings. It is the “material" which is required to construct the building of our body. Both vegetable and animal foods can be good sources of this “material”.
